This document describes a vocabulary; in this case ODALA Air & Water - Air (Vocabulary). A vocabulary is a collection of reusable terms, more precisely classes and properties, of which their semantics is fixed by means of a label and a definition. For terms defined in this domain additional formal agreements may be defined. The formal agreements for external terms, reused in this domain, are adopted from that external source.
Summary
The ODALA Air & Water - Air Quality vocabulary provides terminology to describe Air Quality Observations.
Basic terms to describe Observations were reused from the ODALA Air & Water - Core vocabulary, but for Air Quality several new terms were added. Each term describes a particular type of Observation of the quality of air.
The AirQualityObservation class describes Airquality in general terms, either as an AirqualityIndex or as an AirqualityLevel: a numerical score and a categorical rating of AirQuality respectively.
The AirPollutantObservation class allows to describe concentrations of pollutants in the air. As a quantitative value it can be described with an instance of the class AirPollutantValueObservation. To classify the result according to some threshold scheme, use the class AirPollutantLevelObservation.
More generic Air Quality Observations should be described with the terms in the ODALA Air & Water - Core vocabulary.
A class AirFeature is provided to communicate which real-world Object is actually being observed or sampled. It can be substituted with any instance of a class in the domain of air or typed by means of a codelist.

Usage |
It is the featureOfInterest, the Object of which some property is observed to assess AirQuality. This can be the Air in a certain place (eg "the Air in Brussels") or an organism that breathes the Air, etc. The AirFeature can be typed via the "type" attribute, but substitution by a typed instance (eg an instance of type "Animal" in the example with the organism) is also allowed. In either case, the observedProperty must be a phenomenon related to the Airfeature type. If the AirFeature is not observed directly, but rather indirectly by sampling it, the Airfeature is the sampledObject and the Sample assumes the role of featureOfInterest. |
